What is covered and not covered?

After the effective date of the policy, some of the benefits include: Emergency evacuation, inpatient and outpatient medical coverage, emergency medical care, prescription medication up to the maximum limit, return of mortal remains, and sudden and unexpected reoccurrence of a pre-existing condition. Expenses related to managing pre-existing conditions, routine medical care, and immunizations are not covered.

Coverage for dental treatment is only provided for cases of traumatic dental injury, or dental emergency treatment due to accident or unexpected pain.

How much is covered?

You will have to pay your chosen deductible of $0, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, or $2,500 once per policy period before the insurance company will begin paying for covered expenses. Until the deductible has been met, you will be solely responsible for paying all costs.

Once meeting the deductible, the policy pays 100% to the chosen policy maximum of $50,000, $100,000, $500,000, or $1,000,000 for policyholders ages 65-79. For policyholders over age 79, the options are $50,000 or $100,000.

Example 1:

Let’s say you have purchased a $100,000 policy maximum with a deductible of $500 for 4 months. You contract a new illness after the policy’s effective date and need to visit the doctor several times. Each visit to the doctor costs $200.

  • You would have to pay for the first two visits to the doctor yourself, as they only total $400, which does not meet your deductible.
  • On the third visit to the doctor, you would pay $100 yourself, meeting the deductible, and the plan pays the remaining $100.
  • For any subsequent visits (either for this medical issue or another different one), the insurance company will continue to pay 100% of the covered medical expenses up to $100,000.

Example 2:

In this example, let’s say you are in an accident during your trip, and are hospitalized for two days. The hospital in the country where you’re being treated charges $7,000 per day, for a total bill of $14,000.

  • If this is your first instance of using this insurance, you would only need to pay your $500 deductible. The remainder would be covered by the insurance company.
  • If you have used your insurance previously and have already met the deductible, the insurance would cover 100% of eligible expenses up to your selected policy maximum of $100,000.
